The third annual Hemel-en-Aarde Pinot Noir Celebration is less than a month away and extends the festive atmosphere experienced in the holiday town of Hermanus. Summer is in full swing and wine farmers are concerned about maturing grapes. Hemel-en-Aarde winemakers have added the sold-out Hemel-en-Aarde Pinot Noir Celebration to their busy schedules. Guests will be travelling from all over South Africa and international Pinot Noir enthusiasts are also en-route. There will not be a dull or quiet moment leading up to the 2016 harvest. Pinot Noirs from Hamilton Russell Vineyards, Bouchard Finlayson, La Vierge, Sumaridge, Newton Johnson, Ataraxia, Creation, Domaine des Dieux, Storm Wines and Crystallum will be presented by the winemakers.
The two-day event starts on Friday, 29 January at Bona Dea Private Estate in Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and continue with individual events on the wine farms on the Saturday. Pinot Noir proceedings will be facilitated by South African born Master of Wine Greg Sherwood. Greg did his dissertation on Method Cap Classique production and is currently working at Handford Wines in the UK. He is only the fourth South African ever to pass the distinguished Master of Wine examinations.
This event truly celebrates Pinot Noir and the contribution of Hemel-en-Aarde producers to its enjoyment. Hemel-en-Aarde Winegrowers’ chairperson Bevan Newton Johnson remarks “we appreciate the overwhelming interest of Pinot Noir lovers in our event and hope to continue annually with an event that celebrates this special grape variety and the wines made by Hemel-en-Aarde producers”.
